Sorry, You’re Mistaken… That’s Not Love
If someone were to ask you what is love, what would you say?
Many of us would say love is a feeling. If that’s the case, what feeling is it?
Is it happy? Is it sad? Is it anger? What feeling would you say describes love?
What would you say if I told you love is not a feeling? It is actually a choice. It is something you can either decide to do or not do.
When we quote Scriptures such as,
“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.”
how many of us realize those are choices?
We can choose to be patient or kind. We can choose to be envious, proud, dishonorable, and so on, or we can decide not to. Either way, those are all choices.
I am afraid when many of us are searching for love we are searching for a feeling. And when we cannot find that feeling, we automatically believe it is not love. You missed it.
Love is not a feeling but it can cause you to feel. And what love causes you to feel doesn’t always feel good.
How many of you are chasing a feeling while missing what love really is?
Does it always feel good to be kind? Does it always feel good to be patient? I will be the first to say no.
Love is more than we can ever understand. There is too much depth of love for us to ever grasp in a lifetime, so if you are chasing a feeling, you’re missing the point.
Love is choosing to honor all of those things listed above despite how we may feel.
So the next time you search for love or act in love, don’t solely rely on what you are feeling.
Love,
Jaz
